After enabling iCloud Photos on both iPhone and Mac devices, some users develop misconceptions about deleted photos, assuming they're still stored in iCloud Photos. However, this is inaccurate. iCloud Photos syncs photos and videos across devices, so once a photo is deleted from one device, it's deleted from all connected devices. Consequently, users seek methods to recover these deleted photos. If you're grappling with the same issue, don't lose hope. This article provides guidance on recovering deleted photos from iPhone, iCloud, and Mac devices.
1. Retrieve Deleted Photos from the Recently Deleted Album
Regardless of whether photos are deleted from your iPhone, iCloud, or Mac, they are transferred to the Recently Deleted album before being permanently removed. You can view photos in the Recently Deleted album and select them to recover.
If your photos are stored in a Finder folder rather than the Photo Library on your Mac, you can access the Trash to recover deleted photos and place them back into the Finder folder.
2. Restore Deleted Photos from Mac Time Machine Backup
For Mac users who utilize Time Machine for backups, recovering deleted photos is feasible. Access your most recent Time Machine backup, and if you can identify a backup preceding the deletion, restore the photos. This process involves clicking the Time Machine icon in the menu bar, selecting "Enter Time Machine", choosing the desired backup date, navigating to the backup of your photo library, and finally clicking "Restore".
3. Recover Deleted Photos from iPhone Backup
If you've deleted photos from your iPhone, recovery options depend on whether you've backed up using iCloud or a local computer with the Finder app.
Check iCloud Backup: Navigate to iPhone Settings -> Apple ID -> iCloud -> Backup. If the backup predates the deletion, restoring the iPhone from this backup can replace the current data.
Restore iPhone from iCloud Backup: Access iPhone Settings -> General -> Erase All Content and Settings -> Erase This iPhone. Follow the subsequent steps to erase data and then restore from the iCloud backup.
After erasing the iPhone data, start setup iPhone, and then you can select the restore from iCloud backup option during the installation process.
Export Photos from iPhone Backup: To export only photos from an iPhone backup without erasing all iPhone data, use Fone Rescue app. This third-party tool enables reading and recovering iPhone data from the device, iTunes, or iCloud backup. Download and install Fone Rescue, scan and select the backup, and export desired photos.
4. Recover Deleted Photos from Mac Disk
When no backups exist for deleted photos on iPhone or Mac, recovery might still be possible from the disk drive. Whether your photo library is on a Mac boot drive or an external drive, Fireebok data recovery software can locate and recover deleted photos from the disk block data.
Download and install Fireebok data recovery app, choose the volume of the external drive or Mac startup containing your photo library, select a recovery mode, scan, and finally save the photos you want to recover.
