How to remove video exif data on Mac?

When you use some video editor applications to record videos or edit movies, some basic exif data about shooting date, gap position, copyright, title, author, etc. will be recorded. If you need to publish it on the Internet but do not want to expose these private information, how to delete those exif data from a video? What’s video exif data and where can we view this information? Usually we can use the photo application or use the mdls command in the terminal to view them.

Using Photos application

Open Photos application, and select a video in Photos, right click it -> Get info, it will display some exif data, such as the creation date, title, description, keywords, camera information, GPS information.

Using mdls command

Open Terminal application(/Applications/Utilities), enter [mdls file path of video], it will display the exif data and other video metadata, video encoding, video type, video bit rate, etc.

Remove video exif data on Mac

 

Using the above method, we can see a lot of video exif data, but cannot delete the video exif data. We recommend using Media Meta application, which is a video and audio metadata editor application that can support one-click deletion of all exif data. Download and install Media Meta app on the Mac.

Run Media Meta application, import video files into Media Meta. Select video files in Media Meta, and then click the Quick Action -> Remove metadata of selected media(s), it will remove all video exif data on Mac.

It doesn’t overwrite the original video files, it saves the changed video in the storage location which you can change it in the Preferences.. setting.
