How to View Photo Exif Data on Windows, Mac and iOS

EXIF data is information that is embedded inside JPEG images. The EXIF data tells what camera model took the photo, the date and time the photo was taken, the shutter and exposure settings, the photo location, etc. If you need to view this data, you need to have a proper Exif viewer. Some of these are free, while others are programs you have to purchase.

Viewing Exif Data on a Mac

A Mac computer should have built in tools to allow you to see the EXIF data on a jpg photo file. All you have to do is choose the image you want, then open your photo with Preview.

1. Go to Tools -> Show Inspector; Click Exif Tab, you can see the Exif data, GPS data of this photo.

Viewing Exif Data in Windows

Windows doesn’t have as many decent free options as the Mac computer, but there are still some apps you can get to open EXIF data up to view. Two examples include:

1. Opanda IExif
Opanda IExif is an upfront and simple program that downloads and installs easily. Once installed, just open the program and follow the simple directions to view EXIF data.

2. Kuso Exif Viewer
Kuso Exif Viewer is also easy to use and is similar to the Opanda IEXIF viewer. It looks more like the typical Windows app though so may be more comforting for heavy Windows users to use to see EXIF data.

3. You can also view most of the needed EXIF data in Windows without the need for any third party software by right clicking the desired photo and going to the “Properties” and “Details” page to view the picture’s metadata info.

View EXIF Data on iPhone (iOS Systems)

When it comes to trying to view EXIF data on your iPhone’s IOS system, there rae several apps that will do the job. These include:

Koredoko – Exif and GPS Viewer
Koredoko uses app puts all the phone files onto a map. Then, you just click onto the one you want to see the EXIF data from and in a few taps later you will have all the information you need.

Exif Wizard
EXIF Wizard works pretty similar to the Koredoko app. It is not quite as sleek and slick looking, but it does the job. You can zoom into the photo you need to get the EXIF data from, and see the full resolution on it as high as 12 megapixels and it gives you all of the needed EXIF information.
