Do you also have a lot of old digital photos and scanned photos like me? They do not have the shooting date, but their file names record their photo shooting date, similar to YYYY-MM-DD, YYYYMMDD HHMMSS. When we transfer or upload them to Apple Photos or Google Photos, they will mess up the entire photo library instead of organizing them by the photo taken date. Is there any way to change photo taken date based on file name?
The shooting date of the photo is recorded in the photo Exif data, when we plan to add the photo shooting date, we will need to change the photo exif data. Some softwares support changing the photo exif date, but they do not support changing photo date base on file name. Fortunately, Photo Exifer provides a feature to automatically batch change the photo shooting date based on the photo file name with one click.
Download and install Photo Exifer on your Mac, import photos into Photo Exifer, select imported photos, and then click Quick Action -> choose the “Set Camera date using file name” menu item, it will done.
How to check if the shooting date in the photo has been added or changed? Open the changed photo with Preview application, go to Preview Menu -> Tools -> Show Inspector -> Exif, it will display all exif information, the Date Time Digitized and Date Time Original will be the photo taken date.
In addition, it can also support batch editing of all photo metadata tags, as well as the photo library metadata in the Photos application, find and delete duplicate photos in the photo library.
