Want to clean up memory on your iPhone? Here's how. Before starting, use iTunes or iCloud to backup your iPhone just in case you make a mistake. Then, go to Settings > General > About to see how much space you have available. After that, head to Settings > General > Usage and look at the Storage.
Now you have an idea of what you're working with (a before and after shot of your iPhone, if you will).
Cleaning Up Your iPhone's Memory
Here's what to do next:
1. While in the Usage menu, hit Videos and look at what's there. Slide unwanted videos to the left and hit Delete. Keep in mind you can delete episodes or the entire series/movie.
2. Next, trim your apps. Tap on the biggest memory hogs and hit Delete App, then confirm. Be honest — do you really use that app? You can always get it again.
3. Now, start in on your messages. First, Load Earlier Messages in your Messages App and then save all photo attachments to your Camera Roll. This ensures you keep your wanted photos.
4. Next, delete all MMS, SMS and iMessages — don't worry, you backed them up on iTunes or iCloud earlier, right? Simply slide each message to the left, or tap Edit on the top left and then tap the red “minus” sign next to each thread and then hit Delete.
5. Speaking of your Camera Roll, delete images you don't want, sync the rest to your iTunes or iCloud, then download them to your computer. Finally, delete them from your iPhone. Then, set your iCloud to automatically back up your Camera Roll.
6. Photo Stream is on by default and eats up a ton of space. Save the images from your Photo Stream onto your computer and then delete them from the iPhone. You can also turn off Photo Stream and reclaim about 1 GB of data moving forward. Settings > Photos & Camera > My Photo Stream > Delete.
7. If you shoot photos in HDR, adjust your settings by turning off Keep Normal Photo in your Photo & Camera settings. This eliminates multiple versions of your photos which takes up space.
8. Connect your iPhone to iTunes and sync it. This will remove a ton of “Other” data since iTunes automatically backs it up.
9. Go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data. Do this for any browser you use.
10. Delete all your voicemails that you don't want at Phone > Voicemail and then sliding them to the left.
