After downloading music, videos and other content from the iTunes store if you want to play the content in multiple computers, then each of the computers need to be authorized with your iTunes account. You can authorize maximum of five computers with your iTunes account. This is not a big problem because very few of us use five computers.
However those five authorizations can get used up quickly if you sell your old computers and forget to deauthorize your old computer for iTunes. Thus if you reach five computers limit, then you will not be able to deauthorize using the iTunes software directly.
You have to work on each computer to deauthorize the computers for iTunes. Here is a guide that will help you to remove all the computers that are associated with your iTunes account. But before go ahead with the process, one thing you should keep in mind is that you can do this process only once in a year.
Steps to Deauthorize Old Computers for iTunes
1. Start by launching the iTunes software and then apply any updates if required.
2. You will get iTunes Store link in the left window pane. Click on that option.
3. At the top right-hand side of the screen sign in button is there. Click the button to sign in. Provide your Apple password and ID in the required fields and then click sign in button.
4. Click the drop down menu that is placed next to the Apple ID field and then choose the Account option.
5. On the Account Information screen, see the Apple ID Summary section for computer authorizations. A "Deauthorize All" button will be displayed on the screen if you have more than one authorized computers. Click on the button to continue.
6. Now a dialog box window will be popped up on the screen asking if you want to remove all the computers that are associated with your iTunes account. Click on the Deauthorize all computers button to proceed.
7. In few seconds a message will be displayed informing you that the deauthorization process is completed. Click OK button to finish.
Now you have to re-authorize your computer that you will use with your Apple ID account.
