We use iTunes or iCloud to backup the iPhone and other iOS device, so we can restore the backup after resetting the iPhone or replacing it with a new iPhone. Have you ever had an error when restoring an iPhone device? Many iPhone users reported that when restoring an iTunes backup from a computer or iPhone, the error code 4010 caused the restore to fail. “The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4010)”. If you are looking for a solution to fix this error, this article will give the answer.
1. Update iTunes to the latest version
Install the latest iTunes updates for your PC/Mac, some old iTunes can’t be compatible with the new iOS version. Check the iTunes update on Mac, open the AppStore on Mac -> click Update at the top of the AppStore to check if any iTunes updates are available. Check the iTunes update on PC, open iTunes -> From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Help > Check for Updates.
2. Restart iPhone and the computer
First force your iPhone to restart, different iPhone models need to press and hold the different button to restart, see the below image:
If you restore the iTunes backup on a computer, restart the computer as well.
3. Turn off Firewall or Antivirus on the computer
If you restore the iTunes backup from a PC, please turn off the security software(such as firewall, antivirus or malware blocker software). You can enable them again after restoring the iTunes backup.
4. Make sure your computer can communicate with Apple’s Software server
Have a try to visit Apple to make sure that your device can connect with the Apple’ Software server. If you’re restore the backup from a computer, you can have a try to bypass the internet router to avoid the router might block iTunes from accessing the Apple server. Disconnect from the wired or wireless router and use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer.
5. Restore from another computer
You may consider changing to a different computer system environment to restore the backup. First copy the iTunes backup to another computer which has installed iTunes, then restore it on the computer.
6. Restore iTunes backup with a third-party software
If you have tried all the methods above, it seems that the iTunes backup can’t be restored with iTunes for some reason. We recommend extracting all iTunes backup data with a third-party software, then sync them to iPhone device. Download and install Fone Resuce on the computer contains the iTunes backup.
Run Fone Rescue, and then click the Recover From iTunes Backup tab, select an iTunes backup in the list, click the Start Scan button.
Select the photo, videos, contacts, messages and more to save them after the scan is complete. Finally, sync the saved date to the iPhone with iTunes or iCloud Drive.
