The recently released iOS 15 brings many powerful new features. Many iPhone users have received the update notification and upgraded their iPhones to the latest iOS 15. But some of them reported they lost most of iPhone contacts after the upgrade. How to get these missing contact back to the iPhone?
Before we start, we figure out where’re the lost contacts comes from? Usually our iPhone contacts mainly come from three places, iPhone local contacts, iCloud contacts, and third-party account contacts (email contacts, etc.). Retrieving different types of contacts requires different methods. The following methods will help you retrieve these three different contacts.
1. Unhide iCloud Contacts on iPhone
One possibility is that your iPhone settings just don't show iCloud contacts. It seems that all iCloud is lost, but they are actually hidden. Go to iPhone Settings -> Apple ID -> iCloud -> Turn on Contacts, and then tap Phone application, tap the Contacts tab -> tap Groups -> Select All iCloud and untitled group, it will display all iCloud contacts on your iPhone.
2. Activate third-party Email Contacts
If you have ever set up mail contact account on your iPhone. (Such as Google gmail account, Microsoft Exchange account or other account). You may need to activate third-party Email Contacts again, go to iPhone Settings -> Contacts -> Accounts -> choose your email account -> enter password to login, and then turn on Contacts tab. It will work.
3. Retrieve iPhone local Contacts
When you lost iPhone local contacts, you can restore from an iPhone backup(iCloud backup or iTunes backup), if you have made an iPhone backup before. To restore from an iCloud backup, you need to erase all iPhone content and then restore iCloud backup in the Setup process. Before your current iPhone data is completely replaced by the old backup file, we need to know whether the backup file contains lost contacts, and what should we do about the photos, information and other data that are not backed up in the current phone?
We recommend using Fone Rescue to view or save from your iTunes or iCloud backup before the restoring, download and install Fone Rescue on your computer.
Run Fone Rescue and choose “Recover From iTunes backup” or “Recover From iCloud Backup”, it will display all old iPhone backups. If you’re using macOS 10.14 and later, you need to add Fone Rescue to the Full Disk Access list to get the permission to read iPhone backup. And select an iPhone backup, click the Start Scan button.
Click Contacts & Messages & Call log -> Contacts, it will display all contacts in the backup, select contacts and export them.
If you don’t any iPhone backup, or you don’t know about the photos, information and other data that are not backed up in the current phone. Use Fone Rescue to scan your iPhone device, it can help you to export all iPhone data from the iPhone, and recover the deleted or lost iPhone contacts from the iPhone database.
Connect your iPhone with the computer, run Fone Rescue, select “Recover From iOS Device” mode, click the Start Scan button to scan and read iPhone data.
Once the Scan is completed, you can select iPhone photos and other data to export, go to Contacts & Messages & Call log -> Contacts, turn on “Only display deleted items” option, it will display the deleted contact fragment, and click the Recovery button to recover.
