Some iPhone users report that their iPhone screen shows "Security Lock" and doesn't allow them to enter the passcode again, and there are two options: Emergency and Erase iPhone at the bottom of the iPhone screen. They don’t want to wipe their iPhone data, how to fix this?
Security Lock is a new feature in iOS 15.2 and later, similar to the "iPhone Unavailable" prompt in older iOS versions. When iPhone was unavailable in the past, we need to connect iPhone to computer and use iTunes or Finder to wipe iPhone data or restore iPhone backup. However, if you have Find My turned on on your iPhone device in iOS 15.2 and later, when you forget your iPhone passcode, it will allow you to use your Apple ID and password to wipe and reset your device without connecting your iPhone to computer. That's why "Security Lock" appears on your iPhone screen.
Actually, there is no way to avoid resetting iPhone data when your see “Security Lockout” on the iPhone lock screen. Tap Erase iPhone, then tap Erase iPhone again to confirm. Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your Apple ID on your device. Tap Erase iPhone to permanently delete all of your data and settings.
When your device restarts, set up your device again, and you can choose to Restore from iCloud Backup, Restore from iTunes Backup, or Set Up as New iPhone.
However, if you've tried a force restart and still see "Security Lock" on the lock screen, you won't be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network and use your Apple ID and password to wipe your iPhone device. And you can only reset your iPhone device using a computer. It requires a Mac or PC. If you're using a PC, make sure that it has Windows 10 or later, and that iTunes is installed. Here are the steps to reset your iPhone using a computer.
1. Turn off your iPhone. Different iPhone models need to press and hold the different button to restart, see the below image:
2. Put your iPhone in recovery mode. Please press and hold the correct button for your iPhone while immediately connecting your iPhone to the computer. Don't let go of the button. see the below image:
Keep holding the button until you see the recovery mode screen on your iPhone, then let go.
3. Restore your iPhone. Locate your iPhone in the Finder or in iTunes on the computer. And then choose Restore when you see the option to Restore or Update. Your computer downloads software for your iPhone and begins the restore process. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then turn off your iPhone and start again.
