Some iPhone users reported that an error occurred when using the Finder to perform an iPhone backup on the Mac . The backup status indicated that the last backup on this Mac was unknown, instead of displaying the backup date and time. In addition, they cannot restore the backup to the iPhone device. How to solve this issue?

The iPhone backup is incomplete for two reasons: some iPhone application data (such as Messages, Notes and other application data) or incomplete backup configuration files (info.plist, manifest.plist or other files) are not backed up.

1. Locate backup of your iPhone on the computer

Open Finder, click Go menu -> Go to Folder… ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup, you will find your iPhone backup folder there.

But the backup data has been encrypted, here we use Fone Rescue to read and browser all iPhone data in the backup, it is a third-party software that can export and recover iPhone data from iPhone device, iTunes and iCloud backup.

2. Export all iPhone data from the backup

Download and install Fone Rescue on the computer, if you’re using macOS Mojave and later, you need to add Fone Rescue to the Full Disk Access list to access the iPhone backup on the computer.

And then run Fone Rescue, and select the “Recover From iTunes Backup” mode. If Fone Rescue can find the iPhone backup, just select the backup and click the Start Scan button to scan. If you can’t find the backup, Please click the Select button to open the backup folder under ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup to scan.

When the scan is complete, it will list all iPhone data from the backup, photos, videos, messages, notes, contacts, voice memo, and the third-party application data, such as WhatsApp, Viber, Kik and more. And then click the Export button to save the selected files.
