How to Copy Photo Exif Data to Another Photo on Mac?

After editing photos using various photo editing apps or creating panoramic images by combining multiple photos, the altered images often lose important Exif data, including creation date, camera and lens information, ISO, shutter speed, F-number, exposure time, GPS coordinates, and other metadata. Is it possible to copy all photo metadata, including Exif data, from the original photo to the edited one? This article explains how to accomplish this task on a Mac.

In fact, the Mac Photos application offers an export and import feature for copying IPTC photo metadata. When exporting original photos from the Mac Photos app, select the "Export IPTC as XMP" option, which saves edited IPTC photo metadata tags, such as creation date, title, description, and GPS data, into an XMP file. When you import the original photo back into Mac Photos, it will copy the IPTC photo metadata tags from the XMP file to the imported photo. However, it's important to note that this method only works for the same photos within the photo library and doesn't cover the full range of photo metadata.

To copy and paste photo Exif data, IPTC data, GPS data, TIFF data and other all photo metadata tags from one photo to other photos or inside photos, we recommend using Photo Exifer application, which is a photo metadata editor application for local photos and photo library. And it offers quick operations support to copy and paste various photo metadata above with one click. And here's how to do it:

Download and Install Photo Exifer app on your Mac. Import both the original and edited photos into Photo Exifer.

Select the original photo in Photo Exifer from which you want to copy Exif data or other photo metadata. Click Quick Action -> Copy photo metadata tags between different photos -> Copy Exif data from a selected photo.

And this action allows you to copy the copied photo metadata to multiple photos.

Moreover, aside from copying Exif data, you can copy other photo metadata or all photo metadata between different photos. Alternatively, you can use the "Copy photo metadata tags within photos" option to copy specific metadata tags within photos, such as copying the camera date to the photo title, copying the caption/description to the title, or copying Exif data between IPTC and TIFF formats, among other options. Photo Exifer provides a versatile solution for managing photo metadata on your Mac.
