How to fix Mac Photos not using the Date taken?

Some Mac users report that Mac Photos does not use the date taken after importing the photos into Photo Library, but instead uses a different date display on the information plane. When they check the original photo in the Finder, they can view the exif original date and time, which is different from the date shown in the Mac photo. This causes the photos in the photo library to be sorted by the wrong date and time.

It means that the Mac Photos application is using "Date Created" or "Date Modified" as the display date, rather than the date the content was created, which is the date it was taken. Next we need to use the content creation date as the the Photo library display date.

To efficiently update the photo dates in your Photo Library using the original content creation dates in bulk, we recommend using the Photo Exifer application.
