How to fix photo lost Exif data after processing in PhotoShop?

Have you ever experienced photos losing exif data after being processed in PhotoShop and other photo editing applications? When we import a photo (JPEG or RAW) into Photoshop and then process in PhotoShop, export or save as..., some exif data is lost. This may be a problem that many PhotoShop users often need to face. Exif data stores all photo information, including camera and lens information, shooting date and shooting location, etc. How to keep all exif data after processing in Photoshop?

In this article we will provide some methods to add the missing exif data, or copy the original exif data to the processed photo. Before the start, we need to download and install Photo Exifer application, which is a photo metadata editor application for local photos and photo library.

 

1. Import photo metadata from original photos into processed photos

 

If the original photo still exists, you can choose to import all the photo metadata from the original photo into the processed photo, which will be the best way. Run Photo Exifer application, and then import original photo into Photo Exifer, select the photo in Photo Exifer, click “Export/Import” button -> Export all metadata info to plist, it will save photo metadata in a plist file.

And then import the processed photo into Photo Exifer application, and then select the photo in Photo Exifer, click “Export/Import” button -> Import all metadata info into the selected item(s), and choose the saved plist to process. It will work.

2. Add missing Exif Data tags to photos

 

If the original photo no longer exists, you will not be able to copy and obtain photo metadata from the original photo. Another option is to add missing exif data tags to the processed photos one by one. Run Photo Exifer application, import the processed photo into Photo Exifer, and then select the photo in Photo Exifer, click Edit Exif data button, and add the value for the missing exif data tag, then click Apply button to save changes. It will work.
