How to sort photos in Photos Application on Mac?

How to sort photos in Photos for Mac application? By default Photos for Mac application sorted all photos by oldest shooting date, there are no more sorting options( sort by filename, kind, size) like in Finder. When we access main menu View item -> Sort, we can only see the option “Keep Sorted By Oldest Capture Date”. If we need to sort photos by photo title, Is there any way to do that? Don’t worry, in this article we will guide you how to sort photos with more options.

Sort photos by photo title and newest shooting date in Photos

 

To sort photos with more options, we need to crate an album in the Photos application, and add the selected photos to the created album. Then open the album in the Photos application, select photos in the album, click the View menu item -> Sort, you will see three sorting options: “Keep Sorted By Title”, “Keep Sorted By Oldest First”, “Keep Sorted By Newest First”.

Change photo title in Photos application

 

If some photos does not contains the photo tile metadata tags, Photos application will use file name as the photo tile. In order to better use the title to sort photos, we sometimes need to modify the title of some photos. Select a photo in Photos application, and then click the Info button, you will be able to change the photo title value in the popup window.

Copy photo filename to photo title

 

Sometimes the file name of the photo is suitable as the photo title, but we can’t copy photo filename to photo title in Photos application. Here we use Photo Exifer, which is a photo metadata editor that supports editing photo library metadata. It can copy the photo file name to the photo title with one click.

Close Photos application, and run Photo Exifer -> Photo Library to read all photos in Photos application, and then select photos, and click Quick Action -> Copy photo library file name to photo library title, it will work.
