Recently, Mac users contacted us and said that when he downloaded Google Photos to Mac, the timestamp of the downloaded photos was incorrect, not the original shooting date. He is a new Mac user and used to use Windows PC, and all his old mobile phone photos and PC computer photos are stored in Google Photos. How to help him to change the created date and modified date of the downloaded photos to the shooting date?
If you see the date of the photo in Finder, Finder uses the macOS file system to manage the creation date and modification date. If you view photo date in Photos application, Photos for Mac use it own database to store some photo information. These are not the actual photo dates in the photo metadata. You can open the photo with Preview application, then access the menu Tools -> Show Inspector -> Exif tab, you will see the real photo shooting date in the photo metadata.
What we need to do is copy the actual shooting date of the photo to the creation date and modification date. Here we use Photo Exifer to complete this work. Download and install Photo Exifer on the Mac.
Run Photo Exifer, and then import downloaded Google photos into Photo Exifer application.
Select all photos in Photo Exifer, click the Quick Action, and choose the menu item “Copy Camera date to Created date”
Then created date and modified date of all selected photos will be changed to the shooting date.
