How to edit HEIC metadata on Mac?

In iOS 11 and later, iPhone uses HEIC as the default photo format for taking photos with the camera. Of course, we can choose the camera capture format in iPhone Setting to Most Compatible(JPEG/H.264) and High Efficiency(HEIC/HEVC). As we known, the HEIC file format is made up of a jpeg and mov file. If we use HEIC as the photo format, does it use different photo metadata than JPG? How to edit the metadata of HEIC photo format?

View HEIC metadata

Open a HEIC photo with Preview application on a Mac, go to File Menu -> Tools -> Show Inspector, you will see the exif, tiff, GPS and other metadata tags. Whats’s the different from the JPG metadata tags? The value of PrimaryImage is 1 and the value of Profile Name is “Display P3”.

Batch edit more HEIC metadata tags

We recommend using Photo Exifer application to batch edit more HEIC metadata tags, such as shooting date, copyright, camera maker, orientation, white balance and other all photo metadata tags.

Download and install Photo Exifer application, and then import HEIC photos into Photo Exifer, click Edit Exif data button to view and edit photo exif data.

Click the Apply button to save the changes after making the changes.

If you need to change other photo metadata tags, please import all all metadata info to plist using “Export/Import” feature, and make changes in the plist file, and then import the change plist using “import all metadata info to the selected items”, it will work.
