Some Mac users reported that when they export some videos from Photos or other applications to an external hard drive, it won’t transfer and retains the original creation date of video files. When you view the information with the Get Info feature, it changes to a transfer date or a random date. How to export video files and keep the original creation date?
Mac Photos application offers two kinds of exports , and they export videos using File -> Export menu -> the “Export Unmodified Original For videos…” option, then select the checkbox “Export IPTC as XMP” to export. When they open the exported XMP file using TextEdit app, it contains the original creation date [photoshop:DateCreated]2021-08-18T19:05:22+08:00[photoshop:DateCreated], but the corresponding video file creation date is incorrect.
Video metadata is stored in the video file, including the original capture date. To process hundreds of video files without the original creation date, we recommend using a third-party app - Media Meta, a video and audio metadata editor app that can batch change the creation date to original capture date. Download and install Media Meta application.
Run Media Media application, import video files into Media Meta, and then select video files in Media Meta, click Quick Action -> and choose the “Copy Shooting/Recording date to Creation date” menu item, it will work.
Or select video files in Media Meta, and then change the value of created date and shooting date for audio and video files, and click Save Changes button.
