How to fix Digital Camera Photos can't import to iPhoto or macOS Photos?

For most of photographers, they usually use digital camera RAW format which retain more image information than JPEG. Because RAW photos are better for editing and controlling the final look of your photos. When you import these photos from the camera to the computer, you will consider how to organize and manage the photos on the computer better. No doubt, iPhoto is the best photo manage application on Mac OS X, and in new macOS, to sync iPhone, iPad, iPod device with iOS, iPhoto has changed to Photos. But many Apple users still use old Mac OS X EI Capitan or earlier, and use iPhoto to manage all digital photos on the computer. If your camera photo can't import to iPhoto or Photos, what should you do?

1. Check The Digital Camera Mode.

Since iPhoto has no any update since March 19, 2015, some digital cameras that it can't support. Such as Canon EOS 5DS, Canon PowerShot S60, Nikon D7500, Nikon D7200 and more. You can find all digital cameras compatible with the iPhoto here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201971

 

2. Update the macOS

Here are the different Mac OS X versions from Mac OS X Yosemite to macOS Mojave with the compatibility for processing digital camera RAW formats:

From the above data, each new macOS update will support RAW images taken by more types of cameras at the system level. The most recent update to support the RAW format was on macOS Mojave on March 19, 2019. Now it already supports the vast majority of digital camera models that are popular on the market today. So update your macOS to the latest version, it will solve this issue.

3. Copy from the Camera Memory card

Another way that you need to connect the Camera Memory card with the computer by card reader. And create a new Folder under ~/Pictures, then Copy those RAW photos to the created folder.
