This error means that the free space on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch is less than the content size of the backup. For example, you have 2.0GB free space on your iPhone device, but your backup file is 6.0GB.
How to fix this problem
You need check the free storage space on your iOS device and the file size of your iTunes backup when you come across this problem.
Check the free space of iPhone, go to Settings -->General -->Usage
Check the file size of your iTunes backup (On macOS)
1. Open iTunes main menu --> Preferences... --> Devices
2. All your iTunes backups will be listed, then choose the restore backup and right-click menuShow in Finder
3. The backup folder will show in Finder, right-click menu in Finder and chooose Get Info
Remove some contents on iOS device that also exist in the backup, until the free space on device is less than the content size of the backup. For example, I have some photos and videos in Camera Roll, these media files also exist in the backup, so I can remove these files from my iPhone, then the free space on my iPhone will be enough to restore. Or you can export photos and videos from iPhone to the computer, avoiding loss of photos before you delete them on iPhone.
