How to fix photos wrong orientation on Mac?

Some Mac users have reported that their HEIC Live Photos appear in different orientations after transferring them from their iPhone to their Mac, particularly those taken in portrait mode. It's possible that Portrait Orientation Lock could be affecting the orientation of any photos you take in landscape mode on iPhone. How to rotate a photo on iPhone?

 

Select a photo in iPhone Photos application, and tap it to view in full screen, then tap Edit -> tap rotate image to rotate the photo 90 degrees. Tap Done to save your edits, or if you don’t like your changes, tap Cancel, then tap Discard Changes.

How to rotate a photo on Mac?

 

We can use the Preview application to rotate a photo on Mac, open the photos in the Preview app, and then click Rotate Left tool (or use the Touch Bar) to rotate the image to the left. Continue clicking to keep rotating.

How to Batch Rotate Hundreds of photos on Mac?

 

The photo orientations flag stores in photo exif data, and it has different values, representing each rotation of 0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees. We can use Photo Exifer to batch edit the orientation flag in photo exif data. Download and install Photo Exifer application on Mac.

Run Photo Exifer application, and import photos into Photo Exifer, and select photos in Photo Exifer, clic Edit Exif data button, find the value of orientation flag under MORE CAMERA INFO tab.

The photo orientation tag has four numbers: [1] =0°, [ 3 ]=180°, [ 6 ]=+90°, [ 8 ]=+270°, -90°, so you can change the orientation value to 1 or 3 or 6 or 8, and click Apply button.

You can open the changed photo with Preview application to view the photo orientation tag , go to Tools file menu -> Show Inspector -> General -> Orientation.
