We can change the background pictures by accessing System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Desktop on macOS. We can see that macOS provide some high-definition pictures as the desktop background under the Apple -> Desktop Pictures and Colors folder.
If we need to add some HD pictures into the system pictures folder, we can access the desktop background picture location(/Library/Desktop Picture) in Finder of the old macOS. But we can’t find the desktop picture folder in the same location in macOS Catalina.
Where is the desktop background pictures location on macOS Catalina? Because of some changes to the system volume on macOS Catalina, the desktop background pictures location has been moved to /System/Library/Desktop Picture. In addition, we can’t add any picture in that folder, because the folder is system privilege and the current user can’t change the privilege.
If we need to add some HD pictures as the desktop background pictures on macOS Catalina, what should we do?
1. Create a new folder under ~/Pictures, here we named Desktop Images.
2. Then copy the prepared HD picture here.
3. Access System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Desktop, click the + button on the left window, then choose the new created folder under Pictures.
4. The created folder will be added under the Folders, then you can choose your added new HD pictures there.
