Have you ever scanned some old photos with a printer on your Mac? macOS provides a Printer & Scanners features for scanning old paper photos and saving them as digital photos. Afterwards, in order to manage and save these photos more conveniently, we usually import these photos into the Mac Photos application, and add information such as shooting time, photo description, etc. to them.
But after exporting these scanned photos from Mac Photos, it’s lack of exif date and the creation date is the export date. Don't worry, in this article we'll show how to edit and change the exif date and creation date of a scanned photo to the date the photo was actually taken.
Open a scanned photos with Preview application and check the exif data of the photo, go to Tools file menu -> Show Inspector -> Exif, check if this scanned photos contains the exif date.
Next we need to download and install Photo Exifer, a photo metadata editor for Mac that supports editing all photo metadata tags for local photos and photos with Photos application.
If those scanned photos contain exif dated, but the photo's creation date is the export date in Finder. Run Photo Exifer and imported those scanned photos into Photo Exifer, select them and click Quick Action -> Copy Camera date to Created date, it will batch change the creation date of selected photos to exif date and time.
If these scanned photos do not contain any exif date, the photo's creation date is also the export date in the Finder. We need to add the exif date and creation date for scanned photos. Run Photo Exifer and imported those scanned photos into Photo Exifer, select them and click Quick Action -> Edit Date info, it will pop-up the date changer window.
It provides 3 ways to change the exif date and creation date of the selected photos, here we select the second way to set the date and time to the selected scanned photos, enter the date the photo was actually taken, and click the Save change button -> change the exif date and created date, it will done.
In addition, Photo Exifer also support editing and adding other photo exif data, such as photo description, keywords, camera information, etc.
