How to find large photos and videos in Mac Photo library?

Photos take up most of your Mac's storage space? Even with Optimized Mac Storage turned on, the photo library still has more than 100GB of space. There are a lot of videos and photos in the Mac photos app. How to find the images and videos with the maximum file size takes up most of the Mac Photo storage space, so we might consider transferring them to an external hard drive and deleting them from the Photos app to free up Mac storage space.

1. Showing Only Videos

Since videos tend to have a large file size, usually the longer duration a video is the larger the file size, check the size of each video and if they are not very short clips, you can check the file size and duration of the video in "Info". You can filter photos and videos to show only video items. Click “Showing: All Items” -> “Showing Only: Videos”, then transfer all videos to an external hard drive, and remove them from Mac Photos application.

2. Sort photos and videos by the file size

The Photos app doesn't offer the ability to sort photos and videos by file size. But the third-party application Photo Exifer does, and it allows you to sort all your photos and videos by file size, file name, date, title, and more. It’s a photo metadata editor for local photos and photo library. Download and install Photo Exifer application on your Mac.

Run Photo Exifer app and click Photo Library tab to read and load all photos and videos in Mac Photos. And then click click Sorting: All photos by file size option, it will list largest photos and videos in Mac photo library.
