Some GoPro users reported that GoPro videos lost metadata, such as GPS information and camera information, after being imported into the Apple Photos application. They can manually add a GPS location to a GoPro video in Apple Photos, but they can't add camera info in the Photos app because the Photos app doesn't offer editing options to change camera info. Apart from that, manual editing isn't a great option when it comes to tons of GoPro videos.
Usually we export photos and videos by inserting the camera memory card into the SD card adapter, or connect the camera and computer with a USB cable, and open the Image Capture or Photos application to export. Before we solve this lost metadata problem, we need to figure out if the original video being transmitted contains video metadata.
Download and install Media Meta application, which is a video and audio metadata editor application. You can view all video metadata information for GoPro videos. If the original GoPro video does not contain metadata information, you can addd it with Media Meta.
Run Media Meta, and then import GoPro videos into Media Meta, it will list all video metadata information there. If you want to add or edit video metadata information, change the value of video metadata tag, and click Save Changes button to save.
If your GoPro video contains the video metadata information, but not display any metadata information in Mac photos application. We need to use another application -Photo Exifer to edit metadata information in Photo Library. Download and install Photo Exifer application.
Run Photo Exifer app, and click Photo Library to scan and view all photo and videos, select video in Photo Exifer, and click Edit Exif data, Photo Exifer provides options to edit camera information, GPS information and other metadata tags.
It supports batch processing, selecting multiple items and then performing the operation. After making changes and opening Photos application agin, the video metadata information will appear in the Photos app.
