How to Fix No Internet Connection after updating to macOS Sequoia?

After updating to macOS Sequoia, some users have reported issues with internet connectivity. Although their Macs show a stable Wi-Fi connection, certain applications and browsers are unable to access the internet. Additionally, some users have experienced intermittent disconnection from Wi-Fi. Reconnecting to Wi-Fi or restarting the Mac doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

If you're encountering similar issues, this article provides several workarounds and solutions to help you restore your internet connection.

1. Restart Your Router

Ensure your Mac is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, then try restarting your router. To do this, unplug the power from your router and modem, wait for 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Afterward, reconnect your Mac to the Wi-Fi network.

2. Check for Installed VPNs

If your Mac is using a VPN, it could be interfering with your internet connection. To troubleshoot, disable or remove any VPN configurations by going to System Settings -> Network -> VPN. Misconfigured VPN settings, such as incorrect proxy server settings or DHCP issues, can lead to connectivity problems.

3. Turn Off the Firewall

The built-in firewall on your Mac can sometimes block applications from accessing the internet. While it's important for security, it might be causing connection issues. To turn off the firewall, click on the Apple menu -> System Settings, then select Network from the sidebar and go to Firewall. Disable the firewall temporarily to see if this resolves the issue.

4. Disable or Uninstall Antivirus Software

Some antivirus applications may block internet access or conflict with macOS's built-in security features, like Gatekeeper and Notary. Temporarily disabling or uninstalling your antivirus software, along with any related security apps, may help restore your internet connection.

5. Use macOS Wireless Diagnostics

macOS has a built-in Wireless Diagnostics tool that can analyze and help fix connectivity issues. To access it, hold down the Option key while clicking the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, then select Open Wireless Diagnostics. After running the diagnostics, you'll receive a list of detected issues, possible solutions, and best practices for improving Wi-Fi performance.
