When you export a video to the Finder from the Mac Photos app, have you ever noticed that the creation and modification date of the video have changed when displayed in the Finder? The export options has selected Title, Keywords, Description and Location Information, but the result is the same. Is there any way to keep the content creation date when exporting videos from Photos?
File creation and modification dates in the Finder come from the file system file attributes, which record the date created or modified on the mac's disk. This is different from the video content creation date (video metadata). Next, we will check and view the video content creation date, and then copy the video content creation time to the local video creation date in Finder.
How to view the content creation date of a video?
No macOS built-in application supports viewing video metadata, here we recommend using the third-party application - Media Meta, which is a video and audio metadata editor. We can use the demo version to view the content creation date and other video metadata of a video. Download and install Media Meta on your Mac, and then run Media Meta application, import your video files exported from Mac Photos application. Select a video, it will display the video metadata tags: such as Title, Artist, Created Date, Shooting Date, Publisher, Copyright, Description, Directors, Keywords, Producers, Actors, Artwork, GPS location data.
And then you can see the Created Date and Shooting Date of the select video.
How to copy content video metadata date to creation date?
If your imported video has different Created Date and Shooting Date, Media Meta provides a feature to batch copy the content creation date(Shooting Date) to the created date with one click. Select your imported videos, and then click Quick Action -> Copy Shooting/Recording date to Creation date, it will work.
