macOS provides text-to-speech for speaking document text content and website page content. In macOS 14 and later, macOS can use Siri as the speaker voice in text-to-speech. Usually we select some text content, then right-click and select Speech - Start Speaking, it will start speaking. However, we can't use text-to-speech to read entire ebooks or documents, nor can we use it to record the sound of the speaking process. In this article, we will recommend an enhanced text-to-speech app that supports reading entire e-books or documents with Siri and can save speech content to an audio file on Mac.
How to select Siri as the text-to speech Voice?
By default, the Speech voice is the system default voice pack, not Siri voice, but you can select Siri voice as your speech voice. Open System Settings app, and access Accessibility -> Spoken Content -> System voice -> Select Siri (Compact Voice 1) option. When you use the Speech feature, it will start speaking with Siri voice.
Use Siri to read entire ebook/document and save to audio file
After selecting Siri as the text-to speech Voice, download and install Fireebok Audio Book application, which supports converting document files or ebook files like pdf, html, rtf, txt, epub, etc. to audio files. Import your document files into Audio Book, and then select an imported document or ebook. If you have set Siri as the system voice to speech above, if not, please complete the above settings first. Then please select your language as the language option, system voice as the voice and appropriate speech rate, click the "Convert" button to start.
It will save the content of the document speech by Siri to an audio file. By default, the output file of Audio Book Application is aiff file format. So you need to convert the aiff file to mp3 and m4b file, you can right click the aiff file and it will pop-up a menu, then choose the "Convert Aiff to Mp3” or “Convert Aiff to M4b(Audiobook file format)" menu item to convert audio files to mp3 or m4b files.
