Mac apps downloaded from the App Store or outside the App Store?

Where did you download third-party Mac apps, Mac App Store, or outside of the Mac AppStore? Although more and more Mac applications can be found in the Mac App Store, there are still many Mac applications that can only be downloaded from the website. Apple allows developers to distribute applications in the Mac AppStore and outside the Mac AppStore, as long as the application has been uploaded to the Apple App Center for security identified.

1. Check the file privilege of the Application

 

Select a third-party Mac application in Finder, right click the application and choose Get Info, view the Sharing & Permissions in the File Info window, if the Read & Write permission is System, it means that the application downloaded from the Mac AppStore.

If the Read & Write permission is current user, it means that the application downloaded outside the Mac AppStore.

2. Use mdls command

 

Run Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities), and enter the following command mdls application file path

use mdls command to check application

If the application downloaded from the Mac App Store, there will be an AppleStoreID(KMDItemAppStoreAdamID)key attribute of the application.

 

3. Use Launchpad

 

Run Launchpad from the Dock, press and hold the Option key, the third-party applications downloaded from the App Store will jiggle, the third-party applications downloaded outside the App Store will not jiggle.
