After upgrading to macOS Big Sur, many Mac users reported that there appeared to be an bug in the Photos export feature, even when we had selected the check box option: title keywords, descriptions, location information, and the exported photos still did not contain any title keywords, descriptions, location information in the photo metadata.
We also found this issue, some photos that did not modify and edit metadata worked properly in the Photos’ export function. However, some photos have been modified and edited for metadata, and when you export photos from Photos, they will not contain photo metadata such as title keywords, descriptions, location information, etc. that we have added and edited in Photos.
How to fix this issue? The problem is that the metadata for these changed photos is saved in Photos' own database, and when we export them from Photo Library, it exports only the original photos, not the changed photo metadata.
We’ll use Photo Exifer to solve this issue, which is a photo metadata edifier for local photos and photo library, not only it can find different photo metadata between the original photo and the photo library database, but it can also export the original photo with changed photo metadata from photo library.
Download and install Photo Exifer on your Mac. If you’re using macOS 10.14 and later, please add Photo Exifer.app to the Full Disk Access list in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy.
Run Photo Exifer and click Photo Library, it will start to scan all photos from photo library, and Photo Exifer will display photo metadata from the original photo and photo library on the right window.
To solve the issue mentioned above, select photos in Photo Exifer that you need to export with changed photo metadata in photo library, and then click Quick Action -> click the “Export original photos with all photo library metadata” menu item.
And then the selected photos will be exported from photo library, they will contain the changed photo metadata.
