Where to find and browse iPhone backup in macOS Monterey?

Are you used to making iPhone backups on your computer? After updating to the latest macOS Monterey, do you want to know where the iPhone backups in macOS Monterey are stored? Knowing the storage location of iPhone backups allows us to better manage them on the local computer, such as moving them to external disks or viewing the contents of backup files.

Open Finder and access Finder main menu -> Go -> Go to Folder… enter “~/Library” and click Go button, and then access the subfolder“Application Support/MobileSync/Backup”, it will contain a backup folder named by your iPhone device UDID, which is the content of your iPhone backup files. You can view some configuration files there to see more detailed information about the backup.

However, all iPhone backup files are encrypted, such as iPhone photos, contacts, messages, etc. We cannot view and read them directly in the Finder like ordinary files. But we can view and browse these files in third-party tools, and be able to download and export them to the Finder as ordinary files, so we don't need to restore the entire backup to the iPhone to get the required photos and other files.

Run Fone Rescue, and choose “Recover From iTunes Backup” tab. If you’re using macOS 10.13 and later, you need to add Fone Rescue to the Full Disk Access(Open System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Full Disk Access.) list to get the permission to read iTunes backup. Select an iPhone backup and click the Start Scan button.

After the scan is completed, click Photo & Video and other tab to view iPhone photos, videos, contacts, messages, notes, third party application data in the iPhone backup, and you can select them to export.
