In order to get higher quality photos, we use a raw photo format as the shooting format for a digital camera. The digital raw photo contains not only photo content, but also photo metadata. These metadata tags can be used to manage and organize photos. In addition, photo metadata contains a lot of information, including shooting date, shooting location, shooting equipment, etc. If we need to remove all metadata or edit some exif data from a raw photo on a Mac, is there any way to do that?
Photo metadata in a raw photo
It contains standard attributes such as EXIF properties, TIFF properties, IPTC properties, GPS properties, and some raw special photo metadata which depends on camera device, such as Canon, Nikon and other device-specific attributes. Below is a DNG photo taken with a Pentax camera, which includes DNG and Pentax photo metadata.
Delete and edit metadata or exif data with Photo Exifer
We recommend using Photo Exifer to delete and edit metadata and exif data from digital photos on Mac. It supports raw photo formats such as DNG, CR2, MOS, 3FR, RW2, RAW, MRW, RAF, ORF and more.
1. Download and install Photo Exifer on a Mac
2. Run Photo Exifer and import raw photos into Photo Exifer, select imported raw photos, click Quick Action button, and select the Remove All Photo metadata info menu item to remove all photo metadata.
3. To Edit the exif data in a raw photo, click Edit Exif data button, add or edit the exif data, then click the Apply button to save.
